afpop Community Centre

This area of the Community section is set aside as a directory of charities that are operating in Portugal. Inclusion here does not indicate that afpop endorses or donates to any charity. There are many charities operating across the country and quite often they are overlooked because they may not have the funds or contacts to promote their work. This means that people who may either wish to help, or may NEED help, are unaware that these organisations exist.

This Charity Directory is coordinated by Ana Lourenço and will contain the details of the charity, their aims and their contact details. Anyone who knows of a registered charity in Portugal that is not included can contact Ana to pass the details for inclusion in this section.

These current economic times are challenging for us all living here in Portugal both in the expatriate and Portuguese communities. WORKING TOGETHER  we can show that it is possible to make a difference to the lives of others.  The  good news  from the Banco Alimentar of increased donations   following their recent nationwide food collection at supermarkets shows  how generous people can be to help others  even when everyone is feeling the pinch.

If you would like to be more involved in your local community.  but do not know where to start, this section will give you the information you need to help utilize your skills and interests  by making  a wish list a reality. All the groups listed  will include contact numbers for different languages spoken to ensure that even if you do not speak Portuguese you can still find out how you can help to make a difference. If you would like to raise the profile of a group that you  currently support or know needs help please contact  Ana Lourenço via the afpop office
