Good afternoon and welcome to this weekly Member Briefing. I am away on family holiday this week, so you are spared my usual introduction. The Membership Services team will of course keep you up to date with all that happens regarding COVID and other matters and I look forward to reading this week’s Briefing with you all.
Situation of Alert
A reminder that the Situation of Alert throughout mainland Portugal has been prolonged until 23h59 on the 31st of May 2022 and remains unaltered, you can find the latest information here:
More about the measures in Madeira you can find here:
Measures for Açores you will find here:
A reminder that the restrictions on entering Portugal for essential or non-essential reasons have been lifted and all passengers are authorised to enter Portugal Mainland. Please find all the information here:
Free Antigen tests
The 2 free monthly rapid antigen tests (TRAg) which were carried out in pharmacies and laboratories are no longer available, however the Minister of Health, Marta Temido, has announced that there will be the possibility for people with a positive self-test, when calling the Saúde 24 line (808 24 24 24), to have access to an automatic prescription for a free rapid antigen test for COVID. This possibility should be available within the next few days.
2nd Booster dose
The Minister of Health has announced that people over 80 and people living in nursing homes will start to receive a 2nd booster dose of the COVID vaccine already from Monday the 16th of May. We are however not sure at present if people will be called automatically by the health authorities or if they need to book. We will keep Members informed.
SEF appointments for EU citizens
A reminder that last week SEF opened 12.240 slots for appointments to renew your EU-Residência. If you do not already have a password to the SEF website, you need to register first on the SEF website www.sef.pt (Click Log-in and registe-se), and once you have successfully logged in, you can go to “Agendamentos”, then “Novo agendamento” and then follow the steps to choose a date and a time for an appointment. Remember that EU-Residências cannot be renewed online (Renovação Automática), you must book an appointment to go in person.
Note: This does not apply for UK Citizens, who must wait for the Article 50 roll out to continue.
Fire risk alert
Due to the increased danger of rural fire, ANEPC - National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority quotes the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) to alert that the next few days will be hot and dry, with temperatures above average.
For this reason, there are municipalities that are in “high” and “very high” fire risk level, especially in the interior North, Centre and in the South region (Baixo Alentejo and Algarve).
You can check the fire risk level in your area on the IPMA website: https://www.ipma.pt/en/riscoincendio/rcm.pt/
If you intend to burn garden waste, don't forget to ask for permission from your municipality's Civil Protection or to register on the platform https://fogos.icnf.pt/InfoQueimasQueimadas/QUEIMASQUEIMADAS.aspx to obtain authorisation.
Correction - Document validity extension
The UPDATE Magazine, April issue, has an article about document validity extension. It mentions that Portuguese driving licences and Portuguese citizen´s cards are among the documents that has an extension of validity until the 30th of June. Unfortunately that is NOT correct. This extension until the end of June is ONLY for Residências and visas relating to stay in Portugal.
This means that if you have a Portuguese driving licence or citizen´s card that is due to expire, the process to renew it must be started before the expiry date, there are no extensions at present for those documents.
We sincerely apologise for this misunderstanding in our article.
The Satellite Office in Lagos will be on Thursday 26th of May between 10h00 and 12h30 at the premises of MediLagos on R. José Ferreira Canelas, which is behind the Câmara building.
The Satellite Office in Almancil will be on Tuesday 31st of May in the MEDAL office. The Satellite will be open between 10h00 and 12h30 for Members who would like to speak with a staff member in person. There is a coffee shop across the road from the MEDAL office if the reception area is full when you arrive.
As the offices have limited waiting space, please reserve a time in advance by sending an email to email@example.com and we ask that you arrive promptly to avoid congestion.
Please remember that the afpop office in Portimão will be closed on the afternoon of Friday 27th May and will re-open on Monday 30th as usual.
Until next time as always our best wishes to you all and please continue to stay safe.
