afpop Lagos Newsletter July 2020
Are you aware of the Blueberry Farm, where you can pick-your-own? Terry and I went there last week and followed it up with a picnic – a very enjoyable day out. If you wish to go then make it early as the sun gets too fierce. If, however, you prefer to just buy them, then you can pick them up by the Orangery Restaurant above the underground carpark in Lagos on Mondays, 11-12am or opposite Spar in Praia da Luz on Thursdays 1pm-2pm. There may be other pick-up points by arrangement so contact Alex on 910 782 740 or Facebook or check out the website on https://quintadopincho.com,
I have been asked recently if I know of any reliable and thorough private chauffeur/taxi firms. There were people returning to Portugal who needed this service and I can safely recommend Jorge: firstname.lastname@example.org 910-555-550. The car is cleaned between each client with strict attention to hygiene - so necessary during these times. We use him as a taxi when we need one.
I recently went to Cangalho, the Restaurant which is attached to the Zoo and think that we will be able to have a safe afpop event there – maybe in September time. There are 3 pods outside in the large garden space and each pod will hold about 20 people divided into tables of 4,6 and 8. I think we can make this work as long as there are guidelines in place so I am currently talking to the owner about this. Perhaps you would like to combine it with a zoo visit either before or after lunch and of course further details will follow but meanwhile you could consider who you would be comfortable with at your table and talk to them about it.
I think it may be a way back to some sort of normality and, providing that people follow the rules which I shall clearly lay out, then I think we can safely meet this way. Cangalho also has Fado nights on Tuesdays, with the ‘a la carte’ menu, though this is held indoors at well-spaced out tables. 282 687 218 • email@example.com • There is also a Facebook page.
Anyway, I shall continue to pursue this and see what I can negotiate – it is certainly the safest venue that I have seen which is so important to us all – and will get back to you when there is progress on this. I am not thinking of the near future but in about 6 weeks which will enable us to see what is happening with Covid then and make plans accordingly.
Meanwhile, please continue to do your bit to stop the spread – safety first!!
